How to apply
Chalky paint will adhere to almost any surface that is clean, dry, paintable or already painted.
Using a soft roller for larger areas and a soft brush for smaller areas and the edges, apply one or two coats depending on the previous colour and the desired intensity, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next.
On new plaster and porous surfaces, first seal with a mist coat. A mist coat is a diluted first layer of paint that soaks into the porous plaster, ensuring proper adhesion and preventing the top coat from pealing or flaking.
How to make the mist coat:
Dilute the paint with water: in a clean container mix 3 parts paint to 1 part water or a 70:30 ratio. Stir thoroughly to ensure a smooth consistency. If this is still too thick you can add a little more water.
Apply the mist coat with a roller for larger areas and a brush for edges and corners. Work in thin even layers to avoid drips. The plaster will absorb the mist coat quickly. Allow at least 24 hours for the mist coat to fully dry before applying your chalky matt top coat.
Check for touch ups. If the plaster still looks patchy, apply a second mist coat before proceeding with your final paint layers. Once sealed with a mist coat, your new plaster will be ready for a flawless finish with chalky matt paint!
Follow this with two coats of chalky matt for the perfect finish on new plaster. Our chalky matt paint is so thick you shouldn’t need more than two coats.
