To ensure a professional finish, follow these step-by-step instructions using M&L Paints’ premium products:
If you’re in a quandary about selecting the perfect paint for your upcoming paneling project and seeking some expert guidance, you’ve landed in the right spot. We would typically suggest our both luxurious and durable M&L Paints Interior and Exterior Eggshell finishes. This exceptional paint option is a fantastic choice for interior wood surfaces and is particularly well-suited for panelling. However, if you have a preference for no sheen, you can certainly use our Interior Chalky Matt on your panelling as an alternative. Keep in mind that, in contrast to the subtle silky sheen achieved by our eggshell finishes, our Chalky range will provide a complete matt finish making it slightly less durable than the eggshell option but still offer a fantastic, luxurious finish.
Step 1: Surface Preparation is key
Fill in any holes or imperfections in the panelling using wood filler. Lightly sand the entire paneling to create a smooth and consistent surface. Use a medium-grade, high-quality sandpaper to ensure an even finish. Use Decorators Caulk to fill any gaps within the inserts and joints of the paneling.
Step 2: Primer Application
Apply one coat of our M&L paints high quality water-based Primer in either Grey or White depending on the colour you have selected. If you have chosen MDF for your panelling, you may notice a slight grain raise. Gently sand this by hand to create a smoother surface.
Step 3: Preparing for Painting
Remove all dust and ensure that all surfaces to be painted are clean. As soon as the coat of our primer is dry, rub down the paneling again with a decorating sanding pad to create a smooth surface for the paint.
Step 4: Applying the First Coat
Apply one coat of your selected M&L Paint to both the paneling and the wall. For paneling in bathrooms we recommend using our Exterior Eggshell finish.
Step 5: Drying and applying the final coat
Leave the paneling for at least 4-6 hours or until the paint is completely dry, you can then gently rub down before applying the final coat of luxury M&L Paint. This will provide the rich and flawless appearance you desire.
Following these steps will ensure that your wooden panelling is professionally painted and ready to breathe new life into your interior. With M&L Paints’ both high-quality primers & paints and plenty attention to detail, your home will be transformed into a beautiful and stylish space. Enjoy your newly revitalised room.
